STAGE MANAGER

BlackHouse is seeking an experienced Freelance Stage Manager/ Showcaller for contract work.  As a Stage Manager, you are able to anticipate production changes during live events. During the live event, the Stage Manager is fully responsible for the running of the show on stage or activation, including production cues, set changes, placement of props and talent location. You are also responsible for overseeing the overall condition of stages/activation, ensuring that the production is in a constant state of readiness. Candidates must have the ability to decipher scripts/rundowns as they relate to talent cues and camera assignments; be able to take charge and work in a fast-changing breaking news environment. Must and have shift flexibility and be willing to work long hours when events dictate.  The ideal candidate will be interested in a career in events and production and will be comfortable dealing directly with a diverse clientele and working remotely and at the BlackHouse office. Candidate must be able to multitask in a fast-paced environment, meet quick deadlines, and have excellent verbal and written communication skills to liaise clearly and effectively with clients and founders. 

Scope & Workflow  

  • Collaborate with the Account Manager & Technical Director during the pre-production process to asses show assets, scripts, show/event flows, event layouts, talent riders, and production schedules.

  • Advise and Communicate with Technical Director regarding all technical components as they relate to the success of the show 

  • Setting up the stage and making sure it is correctly positioned for assigned showCreating cue sheets and conduct pre-production and onsite paper tech meetings with clients, BH Account Manager, and Technical Director

  • Cueing and Calling cameras, audio, video, lighting, fly systems and blocking

  • Attend Pre-production and onsite production meetings as needed 

  • Work with Show Director, Event Producer, Creatives and Account Manager to resolve any issues as they related to technical production as needed

  • Manage all talent and client rehearsals. Communicate effectively via clear communication to all appropriate member of the show team. 

  • During pre-production complete daily time tracking via Harvest as per project guidelines

  • Maintain a professional standard and demeanor for all working situations (in office, on-site, remote/calls etc…)

  • Follow all company policies within the handbook as they relate to policy, procedure, and general conduct 

  • Attend BlackHouse in office Orientation and On-boarding meetings

  • Attend post-production meetings as needed and complete post-production reports

Experience 

  • A minimum of 3 years experience as a Stage Manager or Showcaller for live events

  • Must have excellent organizational and communication skills.

  • Needs to work well under the pressure of a live event

  • Should have a strong fundamental understanding of video, lighting, and audio production equipment and capabilities.

  • Must be able to provide accurate instructions to stage personnel during live events

  • Extensive experience in maintaining positive relationships with technical production vendors 

  • Must be comfortable managing a large team of skilled and highly experienced department leads

  • Ability to keep a professional demeanor in high-stress situations & maintain a proactive approach to overall project management

  • Availability to work evenings and weekends as needed

TECHINCAL DIRECTOR

BlackHouse​ is looking for an experienced freelance Technical Director for contract based event production projects.  The Technical Director is responsible for the management and execution of all technical production deliverables throughout scope and design, budgeting, pre-production, on-site, and post-production stages of an event. The Technical Director is solely responsible for the management of the technical production budget, all CAD drawings, equipment gear lists, technical production labor positions. The Technical Director will report to the Director of Technical Production and work on events as assigned.  The ideal candidate will be interested in a career in events and production and will be comfortable dealing directly with a diverse clientele and working remotely and at the BlackHouse office. Candidate must be able to multitask in a fast-paced environment, meet quick deadlines, and have excellent verbal and written communication skills to liaise clearly and effectively with clients and founders. 

Scope & Workflow  

  • Collaborate with the Account Manager & Event Producer in determining event scope and design deliverable timeline based on proposed budgets and deadlines
  • Collaborate with internal teams to determine all technical production requirements
  • Work with creative and design teams to ensure progress, identify technical issues and provide solutions
  • Complete daily time tracking via Harvest
  • Maintain a professional standard and demeanor for all working situations (in office, on-site, remote/calls etc…)
  • Follow all company policies within the handbook as they relate to policy, procedure, and general conduct 
  • Attend BlackHouse in office Orientation and On-boarding meetings
  • Attend post-production meetings as needed and complete post-production reports 

Pre-Production Support

  • Attend client meetings, site visits, and vendor shop visits as needed 
  • Draft & Distribute RFPs for technical services per BH Producer’s direction and solicit bids for pricing from selected vendors.
  • Maintain the contact list in Event Master Sheet  – Add the info for every vendor you solicit pricing from and include primary contact person’s info with email and phone number 
  • File all quotes and documents from vendors to the google drive promptly and when emailing within BlackHouse team send documents by inserting a google drive link (instead of attaching a document). 
  • Create CAD drawings of the event designs for each design proposed to determine specifications needed to solicit RFPs 
  • Build and manage the technical production budget
  • Manage and or assist with all technical production position holds/bookings
  • Other special projects will arise with responsibilities as needed.

Onsite Support

  • Manage the load-in/load-out of all technical production equipment & scenic elements
  • Attend with onsite production meeting and technical rehearsals  
  • Work with Show Director, Stage Manager, Event Producer, Creatives and Account Manager to resolve any issues as they related to technical production as needed
  • Be on radio during installation/ strike and clear communication throughout event
  • Oversee all technical departments & vendors

Experience 

  • A minimum of 5 years experience as a Technical Director for premium corporate and non-profit events
  • Advanced skills and knowledge of all technical production disciplines including; audio, video (projection/LED, media servers), lighting, rigging, power, internet/networking, scenic/carpentry, media server, screen switching
  • Advanced skills in Vector-works
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, with an emphasis on InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator, is a plus
  • Strong skills required in Google Office Apps including Drive, Calendar, Zoom, Forms, Sheets, Slides Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, Keynote, Gmail,
  • Extensive experience in maintaining positive relationships with technical production vendors and deep knowledge of market fair pricing on equipment and labor positions
  • Strong negotiation and reasoning skills
  • Must be comfortable managing a large team of skilled and highly experienced department leads
  • Ability to keep a professional demeanor in high-stress situations & maintain a proactive approach to overall project management
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends as needed

Marketing & Social Media Intern

We are seeking a highly motivated Marketing & Social Media Intern to join the team in our NYC office.  You will contribute to BlackHouse’s marketing campaigns which will include social media marketing and email marketing to targeted industries.  You will also assist with the planning and production of internal events for the BlackHouse Tribe. Candidates must be creative, able to produce compelling content, and be detail oriented to manage time well as we work in a fast paced environment. You will need to communicate clearly within our team project, be consistent and concise in our brand messaging.
